Max has been shoeing various breeds and performance type horses for more than forty years. He has held teaching certificates in three states and taught high school, community college, and twenty years of horseshoeing classes, as well as heading the horseshoeing department at the University level.
Max has shod horses on two continents and demonstrated forge and shoeing techniques while touring Australia. He enjoys teaching horseshoeing and imparting his knowledge and skills to others. His goal is to teach students how to trim and shoe horses correctly and prepare them to become a successful professional farrier.
Kelly is a full time farrier that operates a farrier service in Grovespring, MO. He has recently come on staff as a student teacher at Shur Shod. Kelly and his wife Roseann (who is also a part-time farrier, and a BWFA Certified Apprentice) have worked in the horse industry for a number of years, breaking and training horses for people, as well as working with there own horses.
ShurShod Horseshoeing School, would like to welcome Brandi Bachmann to our staff. Brandi will be serving an internship at Shurshod to increase her knowledge and build her skills as a farrier.
Brandi is from upstate NY and has been active in the equine industry since she was a child, as Brandi said “When I didn’t have a horse of my own I worked with somebody else’s or I read books about horses”
In her Junior and Senior year of high school Brandi was involved in the BOCES accelerated program for Equine Sciences and Management that offers hands on training and real life work experience for students. While taking part in the BOCES program Brandi was able to work one on one learning horsemanship, riding skills, anatomy, and care while working under professional equine trainer Mary Maitland .
Throughout high school Brandi had started working at a local boarding facility, working horses for boarders and training the paint horses that were being raised at the facility, She has used the money that she made from the stables to put herself through college at Morrisville State College and she now holds an Associate degree in Equine Science and Management.
Brandi became interested in horseshoeing after working with a Palomino pony that had terribly cracked and distorted feet. Wondering what, or if anything could have been done for the pony led her to start learning the art of horseshoeing. Brandi attended ShurShod Horseshoeing School in the spring of 2008 and passed her BWFA Apprentice II certification test shortly thereafter.
Brandi is now a resident intern at ShurShod where she will work towards her next level of certification, while studying under Max Williams and Kelly Case. Some of the things Brandi will be working on are becoming more proficient in her forge skills and learning how to use thermal imaging in the equine industry, she is also looking forward to taking part in the ongoing studies done by the BWFA & FNRC. With Brandi’s drive, ambition, and skills she is sure to become an asset to ShurShod Horseshoeing School and the BWFA .
